  • Christian Gross who hasn't managed a team in Europe in almost 10 years has been brought in to save Schalke who look to have already accepted their fate this season. FiveThirtyEight are currently giving Schalke an 85% chance to go down
  • In his opening game Gross he saw his side lose 3-0 to Hertha (xG 2.28-0.59)
  • Schalke's totals this season are almost unbelievable, 0.57 goals for per 90, 2.79 goals against per 90, 0.9xG per 90 and 2.45xGA per 90
  • With that being said, I still expect them to hit the net in this game, Hoffenheim cannot defend this season and Schalke are unlikely to play with their backs against the wall considering their situation.
  • Schalke have not kept a Bundesliga clean sheet in 26 games, and have conceded 2+ in 83% of their games since November
  • As I tweeted last weekend, Hoffenheim have hit a bit of an injury crisis but I still feel they'll have too much for Schalke. As of today most of their best XI will be available. CB Akpoguma is probably their biggest loss
  • Baumgartner (0.42 goal contributions per 90), Bebou (0.85 Goal contributions per 90), Dabbur (0.46 goal contributions per 90), and Kramaric (1.1 goal contributions p90) are all available so they should still pack a punch going forward
  • Expected XI: Baumann, Posch, Adams, Vogt, Sessegnon, Baumgartner, Samassekou, Kramaric, Bebou, Belfodil, Skov
  • Hoffenheim perform their best in front of goal with Bebou (2.21 team goals p90), Kramaric (1.94 team goals per 90), and Baumgartner (1.72 team goals per 9o) so having them available should be a huge plus
  • If Schalke fall behind (and they usually do) I would fear for them. If we look at their last 18 games when they've conceded first, they've gone on to lose in 14 while allowing an additional 2.77 goals against per match

Final word: Sebastian Hoeneß is likely sacked if his side don't win here, Although I think they concede to Schalke I still believe their get the job done themselves
